Healing with Self-Compassion

Healing with Self-Compassion

A dear customer of mine asked me to put together a special journaling bundle for her loved one who was going through a rough time healing post-surgery, and that's what prompted me to create this set of writing prompts.

Sometimes, healing from physical wounds is a journey that takes us through grief, loneliness and uncertainty. And the same can go for healing of other kinds, like emotional healing.

The important thing is that we are here for ourselves, get in touch with our feelings, and stay with them so that they can be processed. And, not lose hope along the way.

Here are some journaling prompts to help you in the healing journey.

  • Reflect compassionately.  What feels hardest for me right now—and how can I honour those feelings without judging them?
  • There is light at the end of the tunnel.  How have I already shown strength during this experience, even in ways that feel small?
  • Dear Me,...With love, from Me.  Write a letter to my body, thanking it for what it is doing, even as it recovers.
  • I am not alone.  Who or what makes me feel supported right now, and how can I lean into that more?
  • It won't be like this forever.  Imagine myself a few months from now, feeling stronger—what would I want her to tell me today?

Healing with self-compassion means being gentle and patient with your physical and inner bodies. Healing is not linear, and some days will be harder than others. Journaling is a great way to care for yourself. We also have journaling prompts to support you if you feel that your mental health is suffering. If you're going through a healing journey, may every day bring you a little comfort and strength.
