Busy bees making a beautiful life

Busy bees making a beautiful life

When we were designing the Spring 2021 edition subscription box, we knew we wanted it to be themed around our beautiful world. But being smack in the middle of a global pandemic has made me contemplate frequently, and I thought it would be fitting to address not the downs associated with locked-down life, but the beauty that still surrounds us and the precious moments, whether they’re small or big, that we can still enjoy every single day if only we made a small effort to do so.

The items I curated for this season’s subscription box were done with this intention; they’re products that will remind and encourage us to take enjoy beautiful moments and appreciate the things around us. Whether it’s taking a moment to enjoy that first sip of tea, to sitting down for 15 minutes to write in a brand new journal, or looking outside for hints of spring coming, or mindfully appreciating the minute details of all the items included inside the box, be comforted to know that every single item was made with love and with the natural resources available to us.

Speaking of nature, our planet is filled with a myriad of creatures, creators, whose life mission is to help the environment flourish naturally. This includes the busy bees, who are sadly threatened. There’s been lots of work done over the past years, by various organizations, to raise awareness of the importance of saving the bees. And there continues to be lots of work done now, because this work must not stop.

Pollinator Partnership Canada (P2C) is one such organization doing this important work. They are a registered charity dedicated to the protection and promotion of pollinators and their ecosystems through conservation, education, and research. The charity’s director, Vicki Wojcik, shared with us that since COVID-19 started, they have seen a significant decline in aid from their core mid-to-large corporate supporters. On the flip side, personal giving has increased, and a diverse mix of smaller business partnerships have shown interest and given support, including Do Good Paper Co.

We are donating 5% of sales of the Spring 2021 edition subscription box to P2C, and helped to raise awareness of P2C and their cause. And we hope that next time you see a bee or any other pollinator, take a moment to watch them mindfully doing their work, and pause in appreciation of them. Learn from nature and apply that mindfulness and sense of gratitude to your own work and play. Life is beautiful, isn’t it?
