For centuries people have connected to the moon. It’s mythology runs deep in our collective unconscious. It is a rock specific to our planet. It embodies the gravitational force that pulls and releases our waters. It is a guide in our darkest nights, yet, magickally is just a reflection of the light that feeds our planet with warmth. It’s a century old symbol for our inner world and the ‘divine feminine’. It’s mysteries continue to mystify, yet somehow, there is an innate part of each of us that can deeply understand our individual and collective relationship to this magickal part of the night sky.
Building a relationship with the moon can inform us of our inner world and emotional cycles. Journaling our experience alongside the lunar cycle can help us understand the natural flow of our energy as it relates to the ever-present cosmic energies. Continually taking note of how we feel and think, what we do with our energy levels during the phases of a lunar cycle can illustrate how we operate in relation to the natural ebbs and flows of light and dark.
Every 28 days the moon grows in our night sky from nothing, (a new moon) to fully illuminated, (full moon) and back to dark again. If the moon connects to those darker and mysterious parts of ourselves, like our subconscious, emotions and intuition, each of these cycles sheds light, quite literally, on different inner aspects.
In knowing how your individual energy flows with the lunar energies of our planet, through journaling, you can learn to use it to your advantage. To help you dive deep into your intuitive pool of knowledge, here are some journaling prompts to use during the various phases of the lunar cycle.
New Moon: (waxing/growing moon)
What do I want to understand more about myself during this lunar cycle?
What is my intuition trying to tell me?
How am I feeling about what this lunar cycle might bring?
What is my current emotional state?
What do I know instinctively today?
How do I feel about what has happened during this lunar cycle so far?
Dark Moon: (waning/shrinking moon)
What do I wish to let go of or release before the next lunar cycle?
Have I made any realizations during this lunar cycle. If so, how do I feel about them?
Where has my energy been directed over this past lunar cycle?
